Timo Komulainen: Biographical
09/11/13 || gk
Where the fuck did this come from? Finnish songwriter Timo Komulainen’s third go-around “Biographical” is a strange set of songs. Utterly random power/extreme/prog metal parts meets pop meets film soundtrack with a shitty drum machine and some pretty bad vocals. Still, I don’t hate it. It’s too bloody weird to hate and I’m having a hard time getting my head round this album. There is occasionally a sense that Timo’s trying very hard to sound like Ihsahn’s last couple of albums in the heavier parts and on its own that would have been alright but then the pop and soundtrack bits are so randomly thrown together that things get a bit ridiculous. He’s also a decent guitarist and has chops but sadly, his songwriting skills aren’t very good. This has to be one of the strangest albums I’ve heard this year. That alone would be enough for me to recommend this on an unsuspecting public but I’ll play nice. Go make up your own mind.
4/10: Some random, strange shit.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
